Amanda MurphyAfter studying Journalism at Carleton University and thereafter obtaining an Honors Specialization degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Western Ontario, I became inspired to share my rich love of literature with others. I attained my Bachelor of Education degree from York University. On top of the several courses I’ve taught at Westfield Education, I’m also an Occasional Teacher for the York Region District School Board.
If there’s one thing that rivals my passion for English, it’s my love of music, and I’ve been fortunate enough to write for a variety of music publications. What I love the most about English studies is that it offers the opportunity to share and develop your own enthusiasms within a structured program. I’m always encouraging my students to share their passions in class so I can integrate them in my lessons to facilitate fluid, unforced, and natural learning.
My objectives are to help students feel fascinated, not daunted, by the infinite complexities of the language, to build their confidence in asking questions, and to support them in understanding that there aren’t always simple answers. What drives me is the love I have for the intangible learning process of the classroom. The information I present to my English students is not there to be merely retained, but rather explored, questioned, challenged, and discovered.
